A simple method using a PACS to minimize leg length discrepancy in primary THA: a method to minimize leg length discrepancy.

We determined whether a PACS-based method (head-lesser trochanter distance [HLD]) better equalized leg length discrepancy (LLD) after primary THA than a conventional method. We retrospectively reviewed 312 patients (379 hips) with osteonecrosis or primary osteoarthritis who underwent primary cementless THA: 198 patients (240 hips) underwent THA using the HLD method, while the conventional group...

Leg-length discrepancy after total hip arthroplasty.

Leg-length discrepancy after total hip arthroplasty can pose a substantial problem for the orthopaedic surgeon. Such discrepancy has been associated with complications including nerve palsy, low back pain, and abnormal gait. Careful preoperative measurement and assessment, as well as preoperative and postoperative patient education, are important factors in achieving an acceptable result. Howev...

Hip joint load in relation to leg length discrepancy

OBJECTIVE Leg length discrepancy is common both in healthy subjects and after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Studies that evaluated leg length following THA have demonstrated a notable inconsistency in restoring leg length. The effects concerning joint load during gait is however not well known. The purpose of this study was to use three-dimensional (3D) gait analysis to evaluate joint load duri...

The importance of leg length discrepancy after total hip arthroplasty.

We assessed leg length discrepancy and hip function in 90 patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty before surgery and at three and 12 months after. Function was measured using the Oxford hip score (OHS). After surgery the mean OHS improved by 26 points after three months and by 30 points after 12. After operation 56 (62%) limbs were long by a mean of 9 mm and this was perceived by 24 ...
